You’ll need to learn our products quickly, stay organized, and be ready to help with everything from restocking shelves to answering detailed questions about comics, games, and collectibles. There’s no time for sitting around—our team works hard to keep the store running smoothly and make every customer’s visit memorable.

Job Description: Experienced Retail Assistant – Comic & Gaming Specialist

  • Location: Sin City Comics & Gaming, Kingsway Centre, Newport, South Wales
  • Hours: Part-time, minimum 12 hours per week (including weekends), increases pending business needs and variable
  • Start Date: ASAP

Sin City Comics & Gaming is Wales’ best comic and gaming store, offering over 60,000 comics, a wide range of pop culture merchandise, and a welcoming, professional retail environment. We’re passionate about comics, games, and collectibles—and we want someone who feels the same!

The Role

We’re searching for a retail assistant with genuine, proven experience in comics, gaming, or pop culture retail. You’ll play a key role on the shop floor—helping customers, supporting colleagues, and keeping the store running smoothly. This is not an entry-level role: real knowledge and hands-on experience are essential. Experience of leading or supervising others is advantageous but not required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver excellent customer service and in-depth product knowledge to every visitor
  • Advise customers on comics, games, and merchandise
  • Support and guide team members on the shop floor as needed
  • Help train new staff in store procedures and product knowledge
  • Take responsibility for opening/closing, cash handling, and daily operations as needed
  • Maintain high standards of store presentation and organization
  • Assist with in-store events and promotions

Essential Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years’ retail experience in comics, gaming, or pop culture merchandise
  • Strong product knowledge—you can talk about your favourites and help customers discover new ones
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently, use initiative, and solve problems on the shop floor
  • Flexible availability, including weekends and holidays
  • Immediate start preferred
  • Experience of supporting, guiding, or training others is a plus, but not required
